The One Stop Adventure of the Maryhill Winery
The Maryhill Winery in Washington state started as a small dream and has become a big name in the wine industry. Located in its own unique microclimate, Maryhill Winery is in a protected setting that provides visitors with spectacular views of the Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge. In addition, this microclimate allows for many varietals to grow that are difficult to grow in other regions. The Maryhill Winery focuses mostly on growing red wines, particularly Syrah and Sangiovese. They do, however, also grow Viognier, Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Grenache.
A young winery that was just established in 2000, the Maryhill Winery has already left its mark on the wine world. In fact, its 2002 Proprietor’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded Best of Class, meaning it was ranked #1 against 250 total wines tasted in the Jerry Mead International Wine Competition.
Things to Do at the Maryhill Winery
The Maryhill Winery provides guests with a variety of unpretentious activities to enjoy while savoring the flavor of its exquisite wine. Many enjoy hosting special events on the grounds, while others like to take the time to have a pleasant picnic surrounded by natural beauty.
The Maryhill Winery also offers an attraction that is unique when compared to wineries around the country – a 4,000 seat outdoor amphitheater. This amphitheater was built into an existing slope in the land and is located next to the winery and its tasting room. The amphitheater provides 180 degree panoramic views of the breathtaking landscape and guests are permitted to bring blankets or chairs to enjoy the stars at night. Ground level lighting illuminates the paths, making it possible to find the amphitheater easily while maintaining the beauty of the night sky. Concerts are also periodically performed at the amphitheater and buffet dining and wine tasting are also offered.
Special Events at the Maryhill Winery
The Maryhill Winery is also host to a multitude of special events throughout the year. In February, it presents the Valentine’s Day Chocolate and Red Wine Festival, at which visitors can get a sneak peak at the red wines being offered and satisfy their sweet tooth by sampling domestic and imported chocolates. In March, they kick off their new wines with the Maryhill Winery Spring Release Party. Food samplings and live music help create the proper ambience as visitors have the first opportunity to purchase the year’s new wines. Other special days, such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Halloween are also celebrated with style at the Maryhill Winery.
